My Morning Jacket Add Shows
My Morning Jacket may not technically be climbing up to the moon, but they probably would if they could. It seems like the Kentucky quintet has been touring ever since the release of last year’s Z, but we’re not complaining.
Not only do they have the standard summer festival dates scheduled (including a Jim James solo set at Philly radio station WXPN’s All About the Music Festival), they’re also pulling a Jay-Z and doing a handful of UK headlining dates before heading back on tour with tour buddies/rock dinosaurs Pearl Jam.
Yeah yeah, I know, Jay-Z isn’t touring with Pearl Jam, gimme a break. But wouldn’t it be awesome if he did? [MORE…]

Craftbits has a great new DIY project: make your own sock monkey as featured in Tony Millionaire’s Maakies. If you’ve never read Maakies before, you’re a lucky person because you get to experience a lot of pleasure for the first time. The Maakies books come in two flavors: incredibly obscene, savage and roll-on-the-ground hilarious comic books intended for adults; and sweet, twisted and utterly PG picture books intended for children. They’re like candy-coated razor-blades, and there could be no fitter tribute to the books than to make your own sock monkey. Link (Thanks, Vikram!)Update: Matt sez, “Here’s a Flickr set of some fantastic sock monkeys created by a Boston artist.”

8 Great WordPress Plugins
Online web design magazine PingMag has rounded up 8 “invaluable” WordPress plugins.
In our recent web publishing poll, the overwhelming majority of Lifehacker’s blogger readers said that WordPress was the only way to get their words out to the world (so much so that the poll actually seems to have broken). So if you’re looking to improve your WordPress blog (on both the backend and frontend), these plugins are worth a look.
Since I’m sure many readers have their own favorites, why don’t you give us a list of your favorite WordPress plugins in the comments or at tips at lifehacker.com. — Adam Pash

Gerhard Stochl
If you are in Berlin for the World Cup excitement and have some downtime between matches (or if you just want to flee the excitement), you should check out New York-based photographer Gerhard Stochl’s show at CircleCulture Gallery that opens this Thursday, 29 June 2006 and runs through 31 July 2006. For the last 10 years Stochl has been photographing professional as well as casual skaters for himself and for major skateboarding magazines. He has circumnavigated the globe–Vienna, Miami, Sao Paulo, NYC, etc.—to document the best skaters. For “Skateboarders 1996-2006” he focuses on the interplay between street skaters and their urban environments—whether they be public art, monuments, architecture, or homegrown half-pipes in industrial ruins. The results are stunning for fans of rad stunts as well as those who just love a pretty photo.

Etnies Arto Sarri
Did anyone realize June 21st was International Go Skateboarding Day? In case you missed it, you can relive the glory any day of the year in this Etnies Arto Saari sneaker (a shoe named after one of the Hundred Greatest Finnish Persons). Etnies just celebrated its 20th anniversary, and the brand seems to be proving that it is only getting better at making shoes that are both functionally durable and stylish for the non-skateboarder. In addition to a triple stitched toe cap and a reinforced outsole, the shoe has a few elements that any sneaker fan can appreciate: tastefully placed perforated leather, a slightly mismatched and quirky colorway, and a mixed suede and leather upper. Prepare yourself for Go Skateboarding Day 2007—it’s only 365 days away.
